The Leiden University lnstitute of Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology (CA-DS) is hosting the ERC Consolidator research project "Food citizens? Collective food procurement in European cities: solidarity and diversity, skills and scale" (grant 724151) funded by the European Research Council.

Key responsibilities
The postdoc will deliver:

  • An annotated bibliography based on literature review;
  • Exemplary case studies templates;
  • Comparative research protocol (main areas of observation; main questions and operationalized questions for semi-structured interview protocol);
  • A submitted journal article on the project’s comparative approach and exemplary case studies.

The postdoc will carry out the project’s literature review, develop three template case studies on the basis of literature, and provide a research protocol for fieldwork conducted by Ph.D. candidates. The postdoc will collaborate with the project’s Principal Investigator and a second postdoc, albeit with distinct competences and functions, in the stages of research design.

Under the PI’s supervision, the postdoc writes up templates of exemplary case-studies and literature review, co-designs the comparative protocol with the project PI, facilitates the PhDs’ access to the field, and finalizes a detailed research protocol to be followed by the Ph.D. candidates. Together with the PI, the postdoc assists the PhD students in calibrating their case study preparation to the research protocol. Specifically, during the second year of employment the postdoc facilitates fieldwork pre-visits of the Ph.D. candidates and gives feedback on fieldwork preparation.

Requirements

  • Relevant PhD and publications;
  • Experienced ethnographer with field experience in Poland;
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written); Advanced Knowledge of Polish;
  • Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a research team;
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: Two years.

We offer a part-time position starting from 1 September 2017. The position is for one year with the possibility of an extension for another year, subject to satisfactory performance. Salary range from € 3,427.- to € 4,691.- gross per month (pay scale 11 in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities).
