• Original research and regular dissemination of the results through appropriate channels;
• Teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels, in lecture and seminar formats, and supervision of BA and MA theses in the International Relations program and minor/premaster European Union Studies;
• Administrative duties, commensurate with career stage;
• Research and publication;
• Representation of the field to external audiences and media.

The applicant will be expected to teach courses on the political economy of European integration, research methods, and comparative regionalism. He or she will do research and publish, and will also be expected to perform administrative and coordinating tasks.

• A PhD degree in the humanities or social sciences on a topic related to European integration;
• A publication record that is commensurate with career stage;
• Proven experience in teaching at University level;
• An excellent command of English;
• Upon appointment, depending on experience and formal qualifications to date, the lecturer may be required to enter a nationally standardized teaching skills certification trajectory (Basis Kwalificatie Onderwijs, or BKO).

Fixed-term contract: Two years.

The appointment (starting 1 February 2018) is for 30.4 hours per week in temporary employment for two years and cannot be renewed. The rank of university lecturer corresponds roughly to that of assistant professor in North-American terms. The salary is in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities and depending on qualifications and experience, the gross monthly salary is €3,475 to € 5,405 (pay scale 11or 12) for a full working week. Depending on qualifications, the appointee may start at the appropriate step in scale 10 until he/she fully meets the requirements for scales 11/12 as specified by the Faculty of Humanities, particularly with regard to teaching skills certification and the number of years of relevant work experience.

Faculty of Humanities

The Faculty of Humanities is rich in expertise in fields such as philosophy, religious studies, history, art history, literature, linguistics and area studies covering nearly every region of the world. The teaching duties will primarily lie in the MA International Relations, track European Union Studies, and in the minor/premaster European Union Studies. The MA program in International Relations is a rapidly growing program that currently offers five specializations. The European Union Studies specialization covers the EU’s broad geographical sweep from an interdisciplinary perspective. The MA International Relations has a yearly intake of approximately 400 students. The minor/premaster welcomes approximately 50 students annually. Both programs are taught in English.
