The section Methodology and Statistics of the institute of Psychology of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences is looking for an Associate Professor (UHD) Methodology and Statistics for Psychology (0.8-1.0 FTE).

Job description

  • Your field of research must fit within Methodology and Statistics for Psychology. The unit has three main lines of research:
    1) Statistical learning for psychological research;
    2) fMRI methodology;
    3) Applied psychometrics;
  • You will contribute to the teaching program of the Methodology and Statistics unit at both the Bachelor and Master level, and will supervise students at different stages of their education;
  • You will act as a statistical consultant for members of the Institute of Psychology and the Leiden University graduate school of social and behavioural sciences;
  • You will be expected to apply for research grants from Dutch and European funding agencies;
  • You contribute to administration and organization at the level of the unit and the institute.

Requirements

  • An excellent research and teaching background;
  • Shown to be able to coordinate your own innovative research program;
  • An excellent record of scientific papers published in international high impact journals;
  • Successfully supervised PhD students and acted as ‘co-promotor’;
  • High level international appearance;
  • Been successful in obtaining research funds;
  • A PhD on a topic relevant to Methodology and Statistics;
  • Shown to be able to program in languages like R, MATLAB, or C++ and have experience in the use of statistical packages as SPSS, SAS, FSL/SPM, or STATA;
  • Experience and affinity with teaching methodological/statistical courses at the academic level;
  • Both Dutch and English language proficiency (or the intention to reach it) is required;
  • The candidate may be required to enter a nationally standardized tertiary teaching skills certification trajectory (BKO or Basiskwalificatie Onderwijs).

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 5 years.

We offer a fixed-term position for 5 years. Salary range from €4,815 to €5,861 gross per month (pay scale 13, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities).

The Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences comprises four institutes: Education and Child Studies, Political Science, Psychology and Cultural Anthropology & Development Sociology.
