Requirements

The candidate:
• has a PhD
• is willing and able to participate in ongoing projects such as the dictionary project
• has an excellent and demonstrable track record in scientific research, and has published articles in relevant journals
• preferably has knowledge of and experience in acquiring external funding for research
• has excellent communication skills and is able to work well as part of a team
• has excellent Dutch language skills and adequate knowledge of English
• preferably has knowledge of and proficiency in the Lower Saxon/Groningen languages is a plus.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 48 months.

The appointment is for 0.2 FTE for a period of four years.
The selection procedure may include an assessment.

The Faculty of Arts of the University of Groningen is seeking a professor of Lower Saxon/Groningen Language and Culture. The term Lower Saxon is taken here to apply to the eastern Netherlands and neighbouring communities. The prospective professor is an expert in Groningen and/or Lower Saxon languages, culture and/or identity issues. He/she is also an (inter)nationally recognized expert in one of the following fields: cultural sciences, sociolinguistics and/or dialectology, as demonstrated by a dissertation and other publications and activities. The prospective professor must also have relevant teaching experience. In addition, the professor is expected to have management and organizational experience, preferably in a multidisciplinary environment.

The new professor will form part of the Frisian Language and Culture chair group. The new professor must be able to create and strengthen links between the degree programme(s), the field and research.

The Chair by special appointment is appointed by the Huis van de Groninger Cultuur, with (financial) support provided by the Province of Groningen and the University of Groningen.
