Job description

We have an open position for a Ph.D. student in the area of fiber-optic communications based on nonlinear Fourier transforms (NFTs). The focus of this position is on analyzing and mitigating the impact of real-world impairments on NFT-based fiber-optic transmission systems. 

The position is part of the European Industrial Doctorate (EID) consortium FONTE, which consists of several European high profile universities and the industrial partner Nokia Bell Labs (Stuttgart, Germany). The successful applicant will work closely with other partner institutions in the consortium and spent 18 months of the appointment at Nokia Bell Labs in Germany.

Since this position is part of the European Commission’s Marie Skłodowska-Curie programme, the successful candidate will receive an additional financial package in accordance with the regulations for Early Stage Researchers, consisting of a living allowance and a mobility allowance. Eligible applicants with a family will also receive an additional family allowance according to the rules of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie programme.

Requirements

We are looking for candidates with a strong academic background and exceptional grades, who have been awarded, or expect to get before the project start, a Master of Science degree in electrical/optical engineering, applied mathematics, physics, or equivalent and are within the first four years of their research experience. Applicants MUST qualify for Early Stage Researcher (ESR) status as defined by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie programme and provide documentation thereof.

Fixed-term contract: 4 year.
