Job description

The International and European Law Department of Utrecht University is looking for a motivated and talented individual for an Assistant Professor position starting on 1 February 2018.

You will be responsible for teaching in the Law School’s Department of International and European Law. You will be teaching both in Bachelor's courses covering European (economic) law and in the European law Master's programme and/or other Master's programmes in courses on European economic law. Your responsibility will cover Bachelor's and Master's course development, teaching, and coordination in the Law School’s Department of International and European Law. You will also supervise Bachelor's and Master's theses, and may be assigned coordination and tutoring tasks. Although the focus of your position will be on teaching, the conduction of research is a possibility for 20 percent of time and preferably within the Department’s research programmes.

Requirements

We are looking for a lawyer with sound knowledge of European law and European economic law. In particular the following requirements apply:

  • You have a PhD in European law, or will very soon obtain one.
  • You have experience and strong teaching skills in academic teaching enabling you to lecture in courses on European law and European economic law.
  • You are proficient in Dutch and able to teach in Dutch.
  • You have an excellent command of written and spoken English.
  • You are highly organised and have strong interpersonal skills for building and keeping contact with colleagues and students.
  • You have experience in teaching small groups, and providing students with feedback.
  • You have strong lecturing skills demonstrated in practice.
  • You have a Basic Teaching Qualification or are willing to acquire one.

Conditions of employment

We offer a temporary position for the duration of two years with a preferred starting date at 1 February 2018. The salary – depending on previous qualifications and experience - ranges between  € 3,475 and  € 4,757 (scale 11 according to the Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities) gross per month for full-time employment.

Salaries are supplemented with a holiday bonus of 8% and a year-end allowance of 8.3% per year. We offer a pension scheme, collective insurance schemes and flexible employment conditions (multiple choice model). More information is available at: working at Utrecht University.
