We are
The department of Environmental Sciences of Wageningen University provides fundamental research and academic education on our living environment: nature, landscape, land usage, adaptation to climate change, water and ocean management, and the various competing claims on space. This also includes biodiversity and the sustainability of management and production. Wageningen University is part of the Wageningen University and Research concern.

FNP focuses on the political, social and cultural dimensions of forests, nature and landscapes in teaching and research activities. Geographically, it covers various regions in the world (the Netherlands, Europe, Tropics) and various spatial and administrative scales (from the global to the local). FNP's research program includes three interrelated themes: (1) the global local nexus in forest and nature governance; (2) engagement and participation of private actors in public policy; and (3) the role of knowledge and expertise in policy, management and conservation. Theoretically, FNP's research program builds upon the so-called Practice Based Approach (PBA). This approach takes 'social-ecological practices' as its entry point of analysis and offers qualitative and quantitative accounts of forest and nature policy, management and conservation. Besides scientific analysis, FNP is also involved in applied research and policy advice. FNP includes a staff of nine people and over 20 PhDs.
