Job description

The Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (Nederlandse Voedsel- en Warenautoriteit: NVWA) safeguards everything that can impact the health of people, animals and plants. Through data science, we generate a lot of knowledge and information with which we can discover trends and anticipate relevant societal developments. Our working method is proactive, risk-oriented and information-led. Are you an up-and-coming talent who would like to discover the world of data science? Or are you an experienced data scientist who can manage teams and educate newcomers? We are looking for data scientists across all levels: junior, medior and senior.

Analysing, investigating, experimenting and developing; you like nothing better than to spend the day submerged in (big) data. We work both demand- and data-driven. Other departments or authorities ask for our assistance and expertise, or we signal trends and developments ourselves, which we translate to our organisation. You are communicatively competent and regularly discuss matters with experts in a wide range of fields. We don’t only consider data to be sacred; the contact and feeling we have with the parties and departments with which we cooperate are as well.

NVWA is continuously strengthening and professionalising data science. Our work focuses on food and product safety, the health and wellbeing of animals, plant health and various aspects of nature legislation. You are passionately dedicated to all of these. Our department is developing rapidly. This means you won’t arrive somewhere where everything has been laid out for you, but rather in an environment in which there is a lot of space for your own input and initiative. This is a perfect match for your pioneering spirit. Technically speaking, our world is also dynamic. For example, we want to spend the upcoming years contributing to the development of a system to automate the monitoring of camera supervision in slaughterhouses. As a data scientist, you will be playing an important role in that development.

Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality

Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA)

LNV strives to be an employer where every employee wants to work, regardless of age, sex, sexual preference, ethnic background and labour restrictions. Working on societal questions in a diversely composed team makes us more effective and innovative, while adding to the enjoyment of our work.

Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA)
NVWA safeguards the safety of food and consumer products, the health of animals and plants, and animal wellbeing, while upholding nature legislation. Consumers must be able to trust that food and other products are safe. This is why entrepreneurs must comply with national and international laws and regulations. NVWA makes sure that entrepreneurs comply with these laws. Additionally, we monitor whether animals and nature are handled correctly.

NVWA maps out where the risks for people, animals and nature are the greatest. We assess these risks and take action where necessary. Our enforcement is aimed at influencing compliance behaviour. We do this, among other things, through inspections, communication and preliminary investigation proceedings. Furthermore, NVWA has an important role in export inspections and the import of products in Europe.

NVWA consists of five management boards: Enforcement, Testing, Strategy, Business Operations, CFO/Finance.

The trends and signals can also be made available to different management boards to improve innovations and improvements of monitoring arrangements and monitoring practices. With this, K&O supports the mutual, cyclical cohesion within NVWA, which consists of signalling, risk assessment, monitoring and risk communication.
