We are looking for an inspiring Full Professor of Empirical Legal Studies with a research focus on conflict resolution. You will play an important role within the newly established conflict resolution research group, in which researchers from the Research Centre for State and Law (SteR) and the Business Law Institute (OO&R) collaborate. You will be appointed in the context of the national law faculties’ Sectorplan, with the Nijmegen Faculty of Law aiming to distinguish itself in the areas of conflict resolution and digitalisation.

You will be expected to play an initiating, motivating and innovating role in the development of research in the field of conflict resolution. To this end, you will work closely with colleagues from the new conflict resolution research group, and in a broader context, with colleagues from the SteR and OO&R research centres. Your qualifications will enable you to play an important role in the multidisciplinary conflict resolution research group, which, in the coming years, will focus on a research project entitled Het domein van de rechter (the domain of the judge). This project centres on three themes: competition between alternative dispute resolution parties, the legitimacy and quality of the judiciary, and the use of digital technologies in resolving conflicts (the full research plan can be requested from the faculty office). You will facilitate the empirical anchoring of this research project.

You will have teaching duties within your area of expertise, possibly within different departments of the faculty. This will entail introducing an empirical component into courses on positive law, and developing new courses that enhance students' reflective skills, such as a course on effective litigation. You will also play a role in the Research Master’s degree and PhD programmes.

You will know how to play an interconnecting role within the new conflict resolution research group and, more broadly, within the SteR and OO&R research centres. To this end, you will be regularly present at the faculty and actively participate in research meetings and seminars. If so requested, you will be prepared to assume managerial responsibilities within the faculty in the years to come. You will contribute to the development of policies regarding the internationalisation of education and research.

Fixed-term contract: 5 years with the possibility of extension.

• Employment: 32 - 40 hours per week.
• A maximum gross monthly salary of € 8,127 based on a 38-hour working week (salary scale H2).
• The exact salary depends on the candidate's qualifications and amount of relevant professional experience.

The Faculty of Law of Radboud University boasts two renowned research centres, concentrating respectively on public and transnational law (the Research Centre for State and Law) and commercial civil law (the Radboud Business Law Institute). Both have traditionally placed great emphasis on legal dogmatic questions. Empirical methods have however come to play an increasingly important role. One of our contemporary ambitions is for legal dogmatic scholarship to go hand in hand with empirical research. The Faculty of Law takes very seriously its societal responsibility in educating young people to become responsible and skilful lawyers. Nijmegen students acquire the necessary tools and knowledge to become legal experts that are able to engage critically with current statutes and case law.
