The Department of Physics at
Utrecht University is actively seeking qualified candidates for a full-time Full Professor position in Experimental Biophysics & Bio-Inspired Materials. This position is the senior of a pair of positions created with funds from the Dutch Sectorplan Physics, which together will strengthen the Department’s focus on bio-inspired materials and devices. This position will be embedded within the
Debye Institute for Nanomaterials Science. Its junior counterpart (Tenure Track position) will be embedded within the Institute for Theoretical Physics. The successful candidate will help strengthen the Institute by developing an independent research line and will benefit from collaborations with groups within the Debye Institute (which has groups in both the departments of
Physics and
Chemistry),
the Institute for Theoretical Physics and with groups in Life Sciences.
Furthermore, the candidate will contribute to teaching (Bio)Physics at Bachelor and Master level. In particular, the candidate will be involved in developing a master track in Biophysics and/or a minor in Biophysics at the Bachelor level. We especially welcome research that has overlap with or is close to the research themes of the Debye Institute for Nanomaterials Science: colloids, nanophotonics and/or catalysis.
The position offered is at the level of Full Professor. Although we are looking to fill this position at a Full Professor level, ambitious researchers who think that they can qualify to this level in the not too distant future are invited to also apply.
The appointee will have full use of an existing microscopy lab, chemical rooms, and level 1 microbiology lab, and take over these facilities upon the retirement of the current Chair of Biophysics. The Biophysics group also comprises one full-time Technician, an Assistant Professor and a filled Tenure Track position.
