Job description

The Institute for Photonic Integration at the Eindhoven University of Technology (https://www.tue.nl/en/research/research-areas/integrated-photonics/) has an open position for a Project Officer.

Background
Integrated photonics, namely the control of light in chips, is a rapidly developing technology, revolutionalizing application areas such as data communication, healthcare and agro-food. The Eindhoven University of Technology has been a world leader in integrated photonics research for over two decades. The Institute for Photonic Integration (IPI) coordinates the research activities of seven groups (>100 researchers) in photonic materials, devices, circuits and systems, within the faculties of Applied Physics and Electrical Engineering at TU/e. IPI's mission is to be at the forefront of fundamental science, technology and applications of integrated photonics. It closely collaborates with the local and international industry, particularly within the PhotonDelta ecosystem, on technology transfer and industrial exploitation of the research results. The IPI office is a small and flexible organisation, consisting of a part-time scientific director, a senior project officer and an administrative assistant. The office coordinates the institute's internal and external activities (collaborations, seminars, communication, outreach), and provides support in setting up and managing research programs. For this activity it is going to expand the staff with an additional junior Project Officer position.

Description of the function
The Project Officer is responsible for the management of large research programs in the field of integrated photonics and contributes to their definition and acquisition. The tasks include coordinating reporting and writing project reports, organizing project meetings and contributing to the redaction of national and EU research proposals. The Project Officer works closely with IPI professors and staff members and is expected to acquire a broad view on IPI research activities, build up a professional network and in the longer term contribute to the implementation of the research strategy. The appointment will initially be for one year, with a perspective for a long-term extension depending on results and funding. A full-time appointment is preferred, but a part-time appointment (min. 0.5 fte) can also be discussed.

Requirements

The candidates should have a solid scientific background, a PhD in physics or electrical engineering, and preferably research experience in optics or photonics. Candidates who have recently completed their PhD are welcome to apply. Excellent communication and writing skills in English are required, and working knowledge of Dutch is a strong plus. The function additionally involves attention to detail and ability to cope with tight deadlines. Experience with collaborations in a national or international context is also required.

Conditions of employment

  • The appointment will initially be for one year, with a perspective for a long-term extension depending on results and funding. A full-time appointment is preferred, but a part-time appointment (min. 0.5 fte) can also be discussed.
