Skills teacher (1.0 FTE)The Technical University Eindhoven (TU/e) is an internationally oriented research university, specialized in engineering, science & technology. It is known for a large scientific impact and the development of technological innovations. The TU/e is at the heart of society and addresses complex societal challenges by focusing on three strategic area's: Energy, Health and smart Mobility, and wants to educate and support the researcher of the future.
The information expertise center (IEC) contributes by supporting scientist and educate students on topics such as research data management (RDM), general data management, Business Intelligence, Open Science and information skills. Furthermore the IEC is responsible for digitalizing the University, archive management and the University library.
Job descriptionIn this job you will work as part of the department of education within the IEC. Our team translates content on IEC themes such as research data management, Open Access and information skills into an education program for Bachelor-, Master-, PhD and PDEng students.
Together with colleagues you will be responsible for the preparation and execution of lectures and training for over 4000 students a year. The emphasis is on information skills for bachelor students as part of their mandatory professional skills program. Information skills includes searching in scientific databases, evaluating and citing of literature, the use of reference management software and scientific integrity. You will have lecture small and large groups of students in English, and supervise students individually or in a group with the execution of assignments.
To optimize and adapt the education for a large diversity in (bachelor) programs, contact with teachers from different background is part of the job to discuss learning objectives, and content of the courses.
Furthermore we expect a pro-active contribution in the improvement in design and conduction of our education, based upon evaluation results.
Currently, the TU/e is changing from collective teaching to time-and space independent learning (TU/e vision 2030) for which blended learning techniques will be applied. Knowledge and experience with blended learning is a pro, but willingness to learn more about these techniques is a requirement. Together with the other education team members, teachers and teacher supporters, you will adapt the current educational program to fit the student of the future.
Tasks:
As skills teacher you are responsible for:
- Giving (English) instructions and lectures for large and small groups of students.
- Assist and advice students with assignments.
- Check and grade assignments and give feedback to the students.
- Create and adjust study- and instruction material.
- Translate substantive knowledge into learning objectives and study materials.
- Coordinate study materials with different faculty teachers.
- Facilitate the change to time- and space independent studying.
- Quality monitoring of educational developments
