Peptidyl Arginine Deiminases (PADs) are calcium-dependent cysteine hydrolases responsible for the post-translational modification of peptidyl arginine to peptidyl citrulline and are involved in common cellular processes such as epigenetic histone modification and gene transcription. Despite recent evidence that dysregulation of PADs is associated with the onset of autoimmune disease, little is known about the exact role of PADs in these pathological processes.
In this two-year project you will study PAD and protein citrullination at a fundamental level and develop new methods to identify and target cellular interacting proteins. Your work will lead to a more fundamental understanding of protein citrullination and reveal novel therapeutic targets for treatment of several autoimmune diseases. Supervising and conducting experiments, both independently and in a team, is part of your work.
Fixed-term contract: 2 years.
