Job description

The Amsterdam School of International Business (AMSIB) is seeking an Associate Professor of Sustainable Finance to strengthen our finance team. AMSIB is part of the Faculty of Business & Economics of the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS) and is the largest school of International Business in The Netherlands, and the first Dutch university of applied sciences to obtain the prestigious EPAS international accreditation.

AMSIB builds on the legacy of business education in Amsterdam going back more than 135 years. We are deeply rooted in Amsterdam, an ethnically diverse hub in a network of Global Metropolitan Areas. AMSIB offers one broad full-time programme in the field of International Business, with 5 specialization tracks. International Business is also offered as a 3-year accelerated programme and an evening programme. Further, we have a Double Degree programme with Berlin School of Economics and Law and will start a joint master degree in Global Sustainable Business with Newcastle Business School in September 2021. All our programmes are taught entirely in English and prepare students to be socially responsible managers and decision makers in the world of international business. Upon graduation, our students earn an internationally recognised degree of Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA).

We currently have an open position, located at the Business Campus in Amsterdam Southeast, for an: Associate Professor of Sustainable Finance (0.8 - 1.0 fte)

Your challenge
The Associate Professor fulfills the following responsibilities:

  • leads research projects and teams and executes a solid research programme
  • participates and actively participates in the growth of the Corporate Governance & Leadership research group
  • disseminates research results to various stakeholders including professionals, students and academics
  • publishes high-impact scholarly research in peer-reviewed journals
  • initiates and contributes to undergraduate and graduate curriculum development in the area of sustainable finance
  • teaches at the undergraduate and graduate levels
  • maintains and expands an international academic and professional network
  • generating external research funding from government grants or corporate sponsoring
  • contributes proactively and collegially to the School’s development and its international visibility

Requirements

The Associate Professor position requires:

  • A doctoral degree (PhD or DBA) in sustainable finance, corporate governance, or a closely related discipline such as corporate finance or entrepreneurship finance
  • Additional expertise in responsible or impact investing and sustainability compliance is desirable
  • Several years of experience in industry in the financial sector
  • Affinity with engaged scholarship and action-based, practitioner-oriented research
  • A strong publication track record in peer-reviewed journals
  • Demonstrated ability in teaching excellence and experience in blended learning or e-learning 
  • Experience in writing successful grants and executing funded research projects
  • A strong network in academic and professional fields and the ability to connect diverse stakeholders, such as students, government, businesses, researchers
  • An entrepreneurial attitude and proactive engagement in the School’s development
  • Has leadership qualities and excellent communication skills in English
  • Ability to engage students in research and to integrate research into teaching

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 year.

This position initially offers a contract for a period of one year with possible extension thereafter. The position is based on salary scale 13 of the Collective Employment Agreement of the Dutch Universities (CAO HBO). The gross salary per month is between € 5.092- € 6.202 based on a full-time contract and dependent on education and experience.

The HvA has an extensive package of secondary employment conditions, including a generous vacation scheme and a 13th month.

The Corporate Governance & Leadership research group takes an integrated perspective on finance and accounting practices, and draws on cognition, application and processes (routines) of organizations that support sustainable development of firms and economies. Our research projects are executed in the +FinanceLab, a platform that includes professionals, educators and students of Finance & Accounting working together. Our research has been published in leading academic journals such as Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Risk & Financial Management, Business & Society Review, Journal of Environmental Investing and Journal of Sustainable Finance & Investment.
