Criticality and self-organization of evolutionary games

Job description

Marie Sklodowska-Curie Early Stage Researcher/PhD - Applied Mathematics

This position at DIAM forms part of the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Action Innovative Training Network (MSCA-ITN)  Evolutionary Game Theory and Population Dynamics: From Theory to Applications (EvoGamesPlus)  to develop realistic evolutionary game theoretic models of real-world populations.

EvoGamesPlus will train 15 Early Stage Researchers (ESRs).

ESRs wll receive theoretical and practical training and will have the opportunity to work as part of an international, interdisciplinary team based at universities and industrial firmsthroughout Europe and are expected to disseminate the results through publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at international conferences

The TU Delft based ESR will work on the mathematical project "Criticality and self-orgaization of evolutionary games"

In this project differential equation models for self-organizing systems will be investigated and bifurcation theory will be used to identify critical parameter regimes. Subsequently, building on existing minimal nonlinear models, time dependence of the network topology will be included. The resulting models will be applied to other work packages within the ITN network, in particular to the modelling of cancer and finding optimal treatment.

A two-month secondment at Deltares to apply the theory is also envisioned.

Department

Faculty Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science

The Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science (EEMCS) brings together three disciplines - electrical engineering, mathematics and computer science. Combined, they reinforce each other and are the driving force behind the technology we use in our daily lives. Technology such as the electricity grid, which our faculty is helping to make future-proof. We are also working on a world in which humans and computers reinforce each other. We are mapping out disease processes using single cell data, and using mathematics to simulate gigantic ash plumes after a volcanic eruption. There is plenty of room here for ground-breaking research. We educate innovative engineers and have excellent labs and facilities that underline our strong international position. In total, more than 1,100 employees and 4,000 students work and study in this innovative environment.
