Job description

The Department of Biostatistics and the Department of Public Health have a vacancy for a joint full-time PhD student in biostatistics on the topic of Personalized Screening: Linking Joint Models and the MISCAN microsimulation model to Prostate Cancer Screening and Surveillance, under the supervision of Professor Dimitris Rizopoulos (Department of Biostatistics) and Dr. Eveline Heijnsdijk (Department of Public Health).

This is a fully-funded position for a period of 4 years. This position is primarily focused on research, but the PhD student also will be expected to assist in the teaching and consulting responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Successful candidates are expected to have a strong background and preferably hold a Master's Degree in Statistics/Biostatistics, Econometrics, or a related field.
  • Candidates should have an interest in developing and applying quantitative approaches to medical decision-making problems.
  • Good command of the English language is a prerequisite.
  • Knowledge of mixed-effects models, survival analysis, Bayesian statistics, neural networks (deep learning) will be considered a plus. Knowledge of R and C++ will also be considered as a plus.

Conditions of employment

You will receive a temporary position for 4 years. The gross monthly salary amounts to € 2.495,- in the 1st year and increases to € 3.196,- in the 4th year (scale OIO) based on a workweek of 36 hours.

You will be appointed within the Department of Biostatistics, which consists of PhD students and staff who do research analyzing complex data structures, namely longitudinal and survival data, correlated data, missing data, censored data, and using Bayesian techniques and machine learning. Also, you will closely work with the Department of Public Health, which is at the forefront of methodological research in the field of medical decision making and personalized medicine. You will also collaborate with research groups in the USA.
