Do you have experience with Digital Humanities, programming and Linked Open Data? Does your passion lie in supporting qualitative research and teaching? The University Library of Utrecht University is looking for a Digital Humanities specialist to strengthen the existing team.

You will be working within the Academic Services sector of the Utrecht University Library (UBU). The sector - approx. 35 FTE - provides services aimed at supporting research and education in which the library prioritizes and promotes the movement towards open science & scholarship. Your sector, in collaboration with the other sectors of the UBU, adapts its services to the changing needs of researchers, faculty and students. The department is results-oriented; you have the freedom and trust to plan your own work.

Your role in the organization
With your knowledge in the field of Digital Humanities, you play an important role in supporting users and colleagues at the University Library. You will build and maintain a relevant network in the faculty, provide support for Digital Humanities and the proper functioning of the Living Lab Digital Humanities together with your colleagues, and continue to build Linked Open Data solutions. In all this you will work closely with colleagues within our sector and from other departments.

Your tasks
  • Develop and maintain a relevant network in the faculties;
  • Together with colleagues devise and develop services and products for creating, managing and (re)using data, software and information in research and education;
  • Make the translation between developers, data-driven research and the humanities;
  • Provide information literacy training related to Digital Humanities;
  • Inform, advise and support researchers in the field of Digital Humanities;
  • Supporting your colleagues in working with LOD, RDF conversion, and SPARQL+;
  • Ensure proper information about and encourage optimal use of UBU services for research and teaching;

Requirements

Who are we looking for? 
  • You have a Master's degree in a related field and preferably at least three years of relevant work experience.
  • You have experience in the field of Digital Humanities and affinity with technical innovations such as Linked Open Data.
  • Experience with programming is a plus, as is knowledge of RDF conversion, data modeling, ontologies and SPARQL+.
  • You have good consulting skills and you know how to represent our organization in the network of collaborating partners and in particular the Faculty of Humanities and the UU Center for Digital Humanities.
  • You are strong in conveying and sharing knowledge, both to groups and individually and preferably have some experience in an educational environment.
  • You have a hands-on mentality and enjoy trying out and combining various tools and techniques.

This position requires strong communication skills and personal qualities such as: customer-oriented, analytical ability, result-oriented, networker and team player. You have an excellent command of English. For international candidates, we require a minimum command of the Dutch language (level B2) or willingness to learn it.

Conditions of employment

We offer a temporary position (0.8 - 1.0 FTE) for one year in an international working environment. After positive evaluation, this can be turned into a permanent position. The gross salary - depending on previous qualifications and experience - ranges between €2,960 and €4,670 (scale 10 according to the Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities) per month for a full-time employment. Salaries are supplemented with a holiday bonus of 8% and a year-end bonus of 8.3% per year. You will receive a laptop and smartphone from the University Library.
