Job description

The world of hospitality is in constant movement. More than ever, guests are looking for personalized experiences that are based on the current developments in the world. Sustainability, technology, and hyper-personalization are shaping the future direction of the hotel industry. Business processes are changing, with real-estate owners and hotel operators taking a new role. Additional ESG requirements reshape financial reporting standards on a global scale.

For our students to be of significance in the future of hospitality, you as lecturer play an important role. Students are to be inspired to learn the business game inside-out, to be aware of the many stakeholders involved of running a hospitality organization. As a lecturer, you will challenge your students to deep-dive into results, both financial and non-financial, and learn them how to steer processes. You will support and create young professionals who are business-savvy and know the importance of financial management.

That’s why you feel at home at Hotel Management School Maastricht

You endorse the importance of good education and are driven to take ownership of the position as higher education lecturer. To students you are a source of inspiration and a role model. To colleagues you will act as a team player, bringing positive energy and contributing to the education of the future generation of hospitality managers.

One of the characteristics of our school is our strong community: our students not only study on our campus, they also live here during the first year of their studies whilst gaining practical experience in our Teaching Hotel Chateau Bethlehem.

You will be fully included in this community. In addition to your passion for, and knowledge of your own discipline, you will be enabled to contribute to the next step in hospitality, both to students and colleagues.

Your tasks

As a lecturer Business Administration, you will provide classes in both Dutch and English in the field of financial management, management accounting, business control and other related courses. The emphasis of the vacancy lies on courses as ‘management accounting’, ‘performance management’ and ‘financial management’. You will be part of the team of finance&accounting lecturers. You will guide your students through these courses, both in classroom and project settings. In the first year of our curriculum, you will teach students the foundation of these business courses in a classroom setting. Later on, you will take an expert role in coaching and will supervise a variety of projects from a business perspective.

The team of lecturers consists of professionals from a different background. Some specifically originate from the hotel industry, others have financial backgrounds out of other industries, some are educational experts. The team is united in the strong ambition to prepare young talent for the international world of hospitality, now and in the future. Together, the curriculum is constantly updated, with strong support from industry professionals. As a lecturer, you play a vital role to be the linking pin between students, alumni and other persons from the workfield.
