A position is available within our team for enthusiastic and accurate analyst who wants to contribute to the quality of our diagnostics in the service of the patient.

Job description

The development and spread of (multi)resistant bacteria can lead to poorly treatable infections with resistant bacteria in patients. This can result in avoidable patient harm and death.

The aim of the project is to build a network in which Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) data of ESBL-Ec (Extended Spectrum Beta Lactamase-producing Enterobacteriaceae) and VRE (Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococcus) isolates from North Holland/Flevoland are shared. Each participating healthcare facility has insight into the data of their own isolates and can compare their own isolates with the anonymized isolates found in the region. The focus is on infection prevention and the prevention and earliest possible identification of possible spread of antibacterial resistant isolates.

The work of the Research analyst consists mainly of the sequencing and characterization of bacterial and viral genomes using Illumina and Nanopore techniques.

The mainly methods used for this project are DNA and RNA extraction, PCR and next-generation sequencing.
