Research funding (grants) officer needed for the Erasmus School of Law

Job description

As Research Funding Officer at Erasmus School of Law you are responsible for guiding the research staff towards acquiring a diversity of national and international grant opportunities. At the same time, you are also a key advisor to the faculty leadership, who you guide in implementing the right strategies, policies, and procedures to maximize its research funding potential.

Job description
You assist researchers in the preparation of collaborative and personal grant applications as well as tenders, offering substantive feedback to enhance the quality of submissions. You initiate and coordinate any further activities aimed at nurturing (international) research talents and play a pivotal role in the development of internal policy and processes related to grant applications, prize nominations, and memberships.

As a key contributor to the strategic positioning of research funding, you serve as a sounding board for the Vice Dean of Research and the Board of Research, ensuring the continued excellence in securing research funding of Erasmus School of Law.

Four days a week you operate from the Research Office at Erasmus School of Law, the hub of research policy and support, where you work on grants and strategy in collaboration with colleagues from the Research Office, Finance, HR and of course our researchers.

The remaining one day a week you will spend at the central Grants team at Erasmus Research Services, a team consisting of Grant Advisors from across the university who work together on building grant support infrastructure, enabling cross-facultary projects, delivering grants trainings to researchers across the university and mutual learning.
Your responsibilities will include:

At Erasmus School of Law:
  1. Staying informed of all kinds of funding opportunities (NWO/EU/KNAW, etc.). Identifying the appropriate grant pathways that match researchers' career stages.
  2. Providing guidance and feedback on tenders and grants from NWO/EU and other funders.
  3. Developing and implementing a research funding strategy for Erasmus School of Law as well as the underlying policies and guidelines. You do this in close collaboration with all the appropriate stakeholders.
  4. Create and maintain an overview of all research talent housed within Erasmus School of Law, as well as their research topics. Leverage this overview to connect the right person to the right funding opportunity.
  5. Collecting and analyzing data related to the grant application activity at Erasmus School of Law, with the eye on providing reporting and identifying opportunities for refining its research grant policy.

At Erasmus Research Services:
  1. Work and learn with the other grant advisors on joint projects related to process standarisation, shared tools, and trainings for researchers.
  2. Act as a liaison for Erasmus School of Law at Erasmus Research Services and vice versa.

Requirements

The ideal candidate would meet the following criteria:
  • Multiple years of experience with grants (EU and preferably national).
  • Knowledge and experience working within a research environment.
  • Know-how and experience in designing and implementing policy and processes.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Excellent command of English (CEFR level C1).
  • Is willing to attend classes we provide to learn Dutch up to CEFR level B2.

The following are not requirements but will be looked on favourably:
  • A background or affinity with humanities.
  • Command of the Dutch language.

Conditions of employment

We offer you an internationally oriented and varied job in an enthusiastic team, with excellent working conditions in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO-NU).

The start date of this position is 1 June 2024 and you will be based in Erasmus Research Services (ERS). This position is for 1 fte. The salary is dependent on your experience and knowledge and ranges from a minimum of € 4.332 to a maximum of € 6.737 gross per month Scale 11 or 12 on a fulltime basis (38 hours), in accordance with the CAO-NU. The contract is entered into for the duration of 1 year and can be converted into a permanent contract if performance is good and the organizational circumstances remain unchanged.
