Job description

CLARIN ERIC (based at the Utrecht University) is a digital infrastructure which provides easy and sustainable access to a broad range of language data and tools to support research in the humanities and social sciences. CLARIN is looking to hire a student assistant (on average 8-16 hours a week depending on availability) during the period of June-November 2024. The candidate can be a student from any Dutch university but has to be able to work from our office in Utrecht, as many tasks will require an on-site presence.

Your job
The tasks will focus primarily on the organisation of the CLARIN Annual Conference 2024 (14-18 October), to be held in Barcelona, Spain. It is a prerequisite for this position to also be available from 14-18 October for on-site support in Barcelona (travel, accommodation and meals will be covered).

You tasks:
  • assisting with the organisation/preparation of the conference (e.g. the registration procedure, coordination of presentations and workshops, answering questions from conference participants, liaising with the venue, hotel and restaurants on practicalities, liaising with local colleagues on practical matters on-site, preparing slide decks and making sure materials from speakers are gathered on time);
  • assisting with the logistics on site during the conference in Barcelona (e.g. putting up posters, handing out microphones, answering questions from participants, making sure speakers are in the right location, making and handing out badges).

Requirements

We are looking for a person who matches the following profile:
  • great organisational skills, structured thinking and good team player;
  • proactive and hands-on approach;
  • proficiency in English (spoken and written; English is the working language in the office and at the conference);
  • familiarity or willingness to learn online tools, such as Google documents/spreadsheets/forms;
  • ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic and international environment.

This position will be of particular interest to students with an academic background with corpus linguistics, language studies, digital humanities and natural language processing.

Conditions of employment

We offer:
  • a position for for 6 months;
  • a working week of 8 to 16 hours and a gross monthly salary between €2,618 and €2,846 in the case of full-time employment (salary scale SA under the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU));
  • 8% holiday pay and 8.3% year-end bonus;
  • a pension scheme, partially paid parental leave and flexible terms of employment based on the CAO NU.

CLARIN ERIC is hosted by the Utrecht University, Faculty of Humanities. The CLARIN Office consists of about 15 people, working at offices in Utrecht and Nijmegen.
