Job description

The Faculty of Science and Engineering has a vacancy for a PhD candidate.

Job Description
In this project, the PhD candidate will perform a theoretical and experimental investigation to assess the fundamental properties and interactions of non-crystallizing deep eutectic solvents (DESs). The primary objective is to push the limits of stabilizing these semi-stable phases, thereby unlocking their potential for various applications such as solid-state batteries and cryoprotective materials.

Traditional liquid electrolytes, while essential for good performance, pose safety risks due to flammable substances, subsequently making them unsuitable for portable applications. A possible solution to mitigate this problem could be solid-state batteries, free from leakage concerns. However, their current performance is hindered by poor solid-solid contact, leading to substantial interfacial resistance.

A semi-solid, or quasi-solid, electrolyte, i.e. a liquid-to-solid phase change electrolyte, may offer synergies bringing new, robust solutions for electrochemical devices. Herein, ionic liquids (ILs) and DESs would be excellent candidates, due to their nature of being liquid at room temperatures, and formed based on the cation/anion pairs or eutectic mixture with a high salt

And the future of society, as we seek solutions through our research to issues from all around the world. Our six faculties combined provide a comprehensive package of study programmes and research.

In our teaching, we use the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) method. Students work in small groups, looking for solutions to problems themselves. By discussing issues and working together to draw conclusions, formulate answers and present them to their peers, students develop essential skills for their future careers.

With over 22,300 students and more than 5,000 employees from all over the world, UM is home to a vibrant and inspiring international community.

Are you drawn to an international setting focused on education, science and scholarship? Are you keen to contribute however your skills and qualities allow? Our door is open to you! As a young European university, we value your talent and look forward to creating the future together.
