Job description

Recent outbreaks of SARS-CoV-2, Avian influenza and mpox have shown that viruses originating from an animal reservoir can cause large outbreaks in free ranging and domestic animals as well in as humans. Such outbreaks of zoonotic viruses can have huge social and economic impact.

In this project, you will further develop and implement next generation sequencing methods to understand which viruses are currently circulating on the human-animal interface in the Netherlands. Moreover, you will be involved in developing new tools and workflows to further understand potential impact of novel viruses, and will apply genomic and serological tools in case of potential outbreaks of (re)emerging viruses. This PhD position is linked to the DURABLE project. More information on DURABLE can be found on the project website.
