Job description

This exciting academic position is now available within the Faculty of Science and Engineering. It is embedded in the research unit PharmacoTherapy, -Epidemiology & -Economics of the Groningen Research Institute of Pharmacy (GRIP; www.rug.nl/grip). The successful candidate will join a dynamic, multidisciplinary group of researchers in this research unit, stemming from the disciplines of pharmacotherapy, pharmacogenetics, clinical pharmacology, clinical pharmacy, and clinical pharmacoepidemiology. We are active in research focusing on studies using “real world” health care data. We have access to various databases and recently started a collaboration with the Lifelines cohort study, genetic department and our in-house prescription database IADB.nl called Pharmlines Initiative. This tenure-track position will complement the existing research lines in the unit PTEE (https://www.rug.nl/research/grip/pharmacotherapy-epidemiology-and-economics/) and create new collaborative opportunities.

The candidate is expected to develop his/her own interdisciplinary research programme in the field of pharmacoeconomics with special interest in methodological innovations and personalized medicine.

Requirements

The successful candidate should have a demonstrated interest in interdisciplinary research (supported by successful publications), in addition to an established competence in her/his field(s) of study and area(s) of research. We welcome applications from candidates having backgrounds in economical, pharmaceutical or (bio)medical sciences.

You have:
• a master degree in Economics, Pharmacy, Medicine, (Bio)medical Sciences
• a PhD degree with strong economical components and a minimum of two years postdoctoral experience abroad (industrial experience may partially compensate for a lack of research experience abroad)
• excellent research capabilities, as evidenced by a publication record in international peer-reviewed journals, presentations at renowned conferences, and a relevant international network
• teaching and organizational experience (appropriate to career stage)
• evidence of successful acquisition of external funding (appropriate to career stage)
• experience in supervision of undergraduate and graduate research students (appropriate to career stage).

You are:
• a team player with good communication skills
• willing to acquire the University Teaching Qualification
• willing to learn the Dutch language.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 60 months.

The University of Groningen offers a gross monthly salary dependent on qualifications and work experience from € 3,545 (salary scale 11 Dutch Universities) up to a maximum of € 5,513 (CAO-NU salary scales 12) for a full-time position. After 5 years, there will be an assessment of performance based on established criteria. If the outcome of the assessment is positive, the assistant professor will be promoted to associate professor with tenure. There will be another assessment at the end of a further 4-7 -year period for the promotion to full professor. The successful candidate will participate in the career track of the Faculty of Science and Engineering known as Career Paths in Science. In addition to the primary salary, the University offers 8% holiday allowance and an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%. The appointment will be initially for a maximum of 7 years at the level of tenure track assistant professor.
