Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in Dr Saskia Haegens’s lab. We are interested in the mechanistic role of brain oscillations, specifically in the context of sensory detection, discrimination and decision-making. We use a combination of electrophysiological methods, including MEG, ECoG and LFP recordings, as well as computational modelling, to characterise neuronal dynamics on several critical levels.
We are looking for a highly talented and motivated postdoctoral researcher for an NWO Vidi funded project entitled “Oscillatory building blocks underlying perception and cognition”. The overall aim of this research programme is to elucidate how the brain sets up the functional neural architecture involved in perceptual processing. We will test a framework involving delta, alpha and beta oscillations and their respective roles in setting the state of the system and guiding relevant information through different processing stages in the brain.
You will conduct MEG studies in healthy human subjects, and collaborate with others in the lab working on ECoG and computational modelling counterparts of these MEG studies, within the larger research programme. Note that part of the lab is based in New York City. You will be based at the Donders Institute, and be involved in the design, implementation and analysis of MEG experiments testing various hypotheses regarding the proposed oscillatory building blocks, as well as in the subsequent communication/publication of the experimental results.
You should have a PhD in cognitive/systems neuroscience or a related field (e.g. computational neuroscience, biology, biomedical engineering, computer science, applied math, physics). Strong signal processing and programming skills (e.g. Matlab, Python) are required. As an ideal candidate you have prior experience with MEG/EEG acquisition and analysis, and a record of published work on topics relevant to the research programme (i.e. brain oscillations). You should have strong organisational skills, be able to work independently, and have excellent interpersonal communication skills. You should be able to work in a dynamic, collaborative and international environment.
Intended start date is 1 January 2019.
