Job description

For the project ‘Towards versatile, antibiotic-specific carbohydrate-formulations for decreasing antibiotics-use and side-effects’ at the UMCG we are seeking for an ambitious microbiologist or cell biologist. In this proposal specific resistant starches and galacto-oligosaccharides will be developed and tested for its support of microbiota after or during exposure to commonly used antibiotics. In vitro models closely mimicking the gastrointestinal tract will be used to follow effects of the carbohydrate combinations on microbiota and immune parameters and epithelial barrier function.

You will be working within the department of Pathology and Medical Biology of the UMCG and will closely collaborate with a student at biobased chemistry and technology at Wageningen University. You will fulfill a central role in performance of biomedical research and associated analysis. You should have affinity with complex cell-cultures, microbiota research and immunology.
