As a postdoctoral researcher you will work in a consortium of two universities (Utrecht University, Radboud University), five schools, and the institute for curriculum development SLO on the project ‘Computational Thinking and Mathematical Thinking: digital literacy in mathematics curricula’ funded by NRO, part of the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO).
In technology-rich mathematics education, mathematics teachers nowadays experience two related challenges: fostering both mathematical thinking, central in the new Dutch mathematics curricula, and computational thinking, emphasised in the Dutch informatics curriculum and the curriculum.nu reform. The main research question of the proposed study is: How can a teaching-learning strategy, focusing on the use of digital tools, support 16/17-year-old pre-university students in developing computational thinking skills related to mathematical thinking in pure and applied mathematics courses? The consortium is setting up a theory-informed design study.
You will provide input mainly with respect to the computational thinking aspect of the project, collaborating closely with another researcher specialising in mathematical thinking.
The project is part of the programme for practice-oriented education research, and thus will result in scientific output as well as practical guidelines and materials for teaching and learning activities.
The Faculty of Science at Radboud University is an equal opportunity employer, committed to building a culturally diverse intellectual community, and as such encourages applications from women and minorities.
