Job description

Wageningen University is looking for an innovative, dynamic and inspiring scholar to lead the Resource Ecology Chair Group at Wageningen University & Research (0.8-1.0 fte).

The Resource Ecology Group (REG) at Wageningen University and Research (WUR) leads research and education in the field of wildlife ecology and conservation in both natural and human-dominated areas. It works on understanding how changing environments affect wildlife densities, distributions, and interactions. Focus is on changes in food availability, predators, pathogens, land use, and climate, and how this affects evolutionary fitness and ecological resilience. The group embraces observational, comparative, experimental, and theoretical studies, which typically have a large field component. Furthermore, the group works at the forefront of integrating advancements in sensor technology and big data analytics to track animals, measure physiological parameters, quantify population dynamics, and monitor ecological resilience. The level of integration of systems under investigation range from individual to ecosystem level. Besides a fundamental research approach the group also works on the application of acquired fundamental knowledge to advance wildlife conservation and other fields including agriculture, forestry, spatial land use planning, and public health.

As head of the Resource Ecology Group, you will strengthen the Chair Group's innovative research and education programme, and effectively and constructively manage the Chair Group's internal processes. You will ensure the Group continues to grow into a supportive working environment for a diverse group of young and established academics. Strengthening the acquisition of external funding for research and attracting PhD candidates are key elements of your responsibility. You will further strengthen the profile of the Chair Group in national and international networks, and you will further enhance the groups successes in generating impact both within and outside academia.
