Data Steward (1,0 fte). Focusing on coordination and implementation of Research Data Management at Maastricht University
Maastricht University is looking for 2 Data Stewards. Focusing on coordination and implementation of Research Data Management

Job description

The Data Steward will work with researchers to plan and support research data management (RDM). He/she will do this within the Community of Data Driven Insights (CDDI) to contribute to the aim of the University to have most of the research data FAIR by 2025.

The Data Steward plays an important role in implementing RDM as a regular aspect of research within Maastricht University (UM). RDM concerns all actual data-related activities in any phase of the data lifecycle. He/she will create awareness and advises researchers on RDM throughout the entire research process from data collection and data cleaning to data analysis, reporting and storage. Supporting the researcher to assure the quality, integrity, and access arrangements of data and metadata in a manner that is consistent with applicable law, institutional policy, and individual permissions.

The Data Steward is the link between the organisations participating in CDDI and the researchers.

Where data management is often limited to the duration of a project, data stewardship encompasses all the actions of data management and activities that make data reusable in the longer term. The goal is that existing data, where possible, be reused. To this end, data must be findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable and permanently safely stored for longer term.

The Data Steward supports individual data intensive research projects, works on data (processing) issues, and gives advice to improve processes. Besides supporting individual research projects, the Data Steward will also help the CDDI with RDM skills support (e.g. training and workshops) and providing RDM tools (e.g. data management plan template) and services on ‘how to use’ (e.g. crafting data management plans, providing support materials via RDM portal) . You also support researchers in a general way in the planning of collecting, managing and publishing data in a FAIR way.
