Job description

The Department of Imaging Physics at TU Delft invites applications for an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) faculty position. Successful candidates are expected to establish an independent research line in an emerging area of imaging physics that adds synergistically to our current research portfolio. We are especifically interested in candidates that want to setup up a program in photonics and/or optical instrumentation targeting extreme light conditions. This can include, for instance, very low light or low signal-to-noise levels, or spatial confinement and application in metamaterial based instruments, or the use of coherence in for example interferometric approaches. While the relevance of this research is expected to be broad we see particular potential for impact in the fields of space optics and optics at low photon levels and foresee excellent opportunities for a strong connection with the Netherlands Institute for Space Research (SRON).

We offer starting faculty a competitive start-up package. A Tenure Track offers young, talented academics a clear and attractive career path leading up to a permanent appointment with the prospect of becoming an Associate or full Professor.

During the Tenure Track, you will have the opportunity to develop into an internationally acknowledged and recognized scientist. We offer a structured career and personal development program designed to offer individual academics as much support as possible. Parental leave and partner career advice are part of this support system. Candidates are expected to be competitive in attracting personal (amongst others ERC funded) grants. Applicants should hold a PhD with several years of additional experience in a postdoctoral or industrial position. Dutch language skills are not required. We especially welcome applications from female scientists.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 6 years with the prospect of a permanent contract.

At the start of the tenure-track you will be appointed as Assistant Professor for the duration of six years.
