Job description

For a bioinformatician we have an unique position available in which you have access to big data bases to work with and develop your managementskills. Read below the video for more information. 

The research programme of Sanquin is centred around five medical needs, including anaemia, vascular diseases and inflammation, bleeding and haemostasis, cancer, and immune deficiency and aging. Within Sanquin Research nearly 230 investigators and technicians are involved in fundamental, translational, clinical and applied research. We seek a group leader Bio-informatics at a senior or principal investigator level to build and lead a team of scientists that employ and develop methods to analyse proteomic, genomic and metabolomic data of our problem-driven research, and to cooperate with our scientists to find novel and integrative solutions for medical needs.
your key responsibilities:

  • Build, expand and lead a team of scientists for which funding of an additional 3-4 scientists is already available;
  • Develop and apply analysis pipelines to support fundamental and translational research;
  • Lead the design and maintenance of the bioinformatics infrastructure for computational analyses integrating multiple omics technologies;
  • Support scientists with an interest in bio-informatics to select and employ bio-informatic pipelines;
  • Collaborate closely with proteomics lab to advance the development of novel mass spectrometry-based technologies;
  • Report scientific results in reports, scientific publications, patents and regulatory documents.

Requirements

We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated candidate with: 

  • A training as bioinformatician, and a PhD degree in Biomedical Sciences or Molecular Biology;
  • 5+ years’ experience in bioinformatics and experience in a similar role;
  • Expert level proficiency with bio-informatic tools and database search tools, including genomic (sequence analysis) and proteomic analysis (PEAKS, MaxQuant, Byonic and Sequest); 
  • Excellent skills in dealing with large datasets and expert knowledge of quantitative proteomics, data statistics, bioinformatics, and data reporting/visualization;
  • Expert knowledge transfer capacity and enthusiasm to coach scientists with a biomedical/molecular biology background who wish to learn to apply bioinformatic analysis;
  • Recognized scientific merit as documented by publications in high quality journals, references, and external presentations;
  • A team player with good communication skills in English, who can work independently, but also as part of a multinational team.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 4 years.

  • a gross salary of maximum € 5272 per month based on your expertise and experience;
  • temporary position for the duration of four years with opportunity for permanent employment;
  • a full time contract of 36 hours per week;
  • 8,33% end-of-year bonus and 8,33% holiday pay;

  • at fulltime employment 201 hours of leave per annum.
