Job description

Are you the one to teach our students about decision science? Are you an expert on (Mixed) Integer Linear Programming, Dynamic Programming and/or Multi-Criteria Decision Making?

Wageningen University is a top-class university, ranking among the world's leading institutions in the food, agriculture and environmental domains. We are currently looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious teacher who would like to join our Operations Research and Logistics group.

The university lecturer contributes to teaching and student supported supervision in the area of quantitative decision support in agribusiness and food supply chains. The ORL group provides courses for various BSc- and (two-years) MSc curricula, where students follow compulsory and elective courses, and write a thesis. Although the lecturer position mainly involves a teaching task, the chair group also aims to involve university lecturers in ongoing research projects. Teaching activities will consist of both large-scale courses and small-group/individual guidance in project work and supervision of internships and thesis projects (both at BSc- and MSc level). We also expect you to contribute to the continuous development of (new) courses, inspire students through teaching and supervision, fulfill coordination tasks and contribute to further development of the ORL group within Wageningen University.

Requirements

We expect you to have:
  • a solid background in applied Mathematics, Decision Sciences, Operations Research, Econometrics or a related discipline, demonstrated by an MSc and (preferably) a PhD degree;
  • experience in and strong affinity with building, solving and analyzing quantitative models;
  • strong affinity, skills and experience in programming and/or simulation software (Operations Research);
  • strong affinity with logistics management and/or supply chain management, preferably related to food products;
  • excellent didactic qualities and enthusiasm for teaching and working with students;
  • good communication skills and a team player;
  • active knowledge of English (spoken and written, a minimum of CEFR C2 level). For more information about this proficiency level, please visit our special language page.

Conditions of employment

A challenging position with, depending on your experience, a competitive salary with a maximum of €4274,- for a full working week of 38 hours in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement Dutch Universities (scale 10) for a period of one year. In addition, an appointment of 0.8 FTE is negotiable.

The Operations Research and Logistics group is part of the Business Sciences section at Wageningen University. The group has a prominent international position in relation to its integrated approaches on the interface between Operations and Supply Chain Management concepts and their translation to effective Operations Research models and solution techniques in the area of food and bio-based supply chains. The group's research and teaching emphasizes the development of decision support approaches and analytics tools, and addresses important interdisciplinary societal challenges in relation to e.g. sustainable healthy food production, processing and consumption, food waste reduction, the transition to a circular economy, as well as the logistics challenges in metropolitan areas.
