Job description

A unique part-time position is available managing a small zebrafish facility and mammalian cell culture lab embedded in the Department of Imaging Physics at the Delft University of Technology.  The successful candidate will work closely with a small international team of BSc and MSc students, PhDs and post-docs to manage day-to-day lab operations, including:  primary animal caretaker duties (food preparation, feeding, and maintaining husbandry and training records in compliance with FELASA guidelines, 0,2 FTE). Cell culture lab duties include: maintaining lab inventory and working with stable cell lines and primary cultures. The job is a 4 months maternity leave replacement position.

Requirements

Candidates should have completed a MSc or PhD degree in a life science discipline, or the equivalent, and have completed training for FELASA or Dutch WoD Article 9/12/13 certification. Experience in a laboratory animal research environment is required. Past zebrafish experience is preferred.  Past experience with primary neuronal cultures is strongly preferred.  Good organizational and management skills are expected. It is highly desirable that the candidate have experience with molecular biology.     

Conditions of employment

This position has an amount of 22-24 working hours per week (0,6 fte). The offer contains a temporary appointment from 15-8-2019 until 15-12-2019.
The salary is based on scale 8 with a maximum of € 3445,- gross per month on a fulltime basis. TU Delft offers a customisable compensation package, a discount for health insurance and sport memberships, and a monthly work costs contribution. Flexible work schedules can be arranged. Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities.

The Faculty of Applied Sciences of TU Delft has a strong program in Imaging Physics in which new instrumentation and new methods are developed for microscopy and medical imaging. The Imaging Physics program has led to innovations in electron microscopy, lithography, light microscopy, ultrasound imaging, terahertz imaging, focused ion beam milling, plus many quantitative image processing methods. Most of the instruments in the lab are prototypes with unique functionalities. Instrumentation development is done in collaboration with scientific and industrial users for evaluation and first scientific observations.

This position is a joint position between the Neuroimaging lab of Daan Brinks and the Zebrafish development lab of Elizabeth Carroll in the Microscopy INstrumentation and Techniques Section of Imaging Physics. The labs focus on development and application of optogenetic technologies.
