Job description

The aerospace industry is in a continuous quest for more efficient lightweight structural materials with added functionalities.Thermoplastic composites are becoming increasingly attractive due to their suitability for automated manufacturing processes, their high fracture toughness compared to thermosets, their potential recyclability and their suitability for joining methods. The aim of this faculty position is to explore the potential of novel thermoplastics composites by significantly enhancing processability, while improving its structural performance. This shall be achieved by usage of novel thermoplastics matrix system and by intricate control of the fibre micro- and mesostructure of the composite, being tailored towards specific novel and possibly disruptive manufacturing approaches. Next to the experimental approach, the establishment of digital twins for novel processing routes towards the multi scale representation of the manufacturing process is of particular interest. This shall aim at contributing towards advanced automation, smart manufacturing and data based approaches in thermoplastic composite processing. Being associated to the aerospace manufacturing technologies group, you will be closely cooperating with colleagues on related topics. Next to the the research activity which includes co-supervison of PhD students, you will also contribute to teaching aerospace engineering students at graduate and undergraduate leve
