Job description

The MERLIN project is a H2020 ICT project focused on improving in-depth diagnosis and therapeutic follow-up of diseases that impact the eye's retina. To that end, the project partners will develop a novel medical imaging device able to detect pathological alterations in the retina with highly enhanced sensitivity and specificity. Modalities included are ultrafast scanning laser ophthalmoscopy, optical coherence tomography and OCT angiography, while ultrahigh resolution will be provided by adaptive optics technology.

In this project, the Biomedical Imaging Group Rotterdam will develop advanced image processing software for the visualization and quantitative analysis of microscopic structures and plans to appoint a Research Software Engineer, to push forward the software development. The main tasks in the project are to provide fast registration approaches to improve the quality of the images acquired and to develop advanced image analysis methods for image-based quantification. In the project, you will collaborate with the other partners in the MERLIN project and with four experienced researchers within our group.

Requirements

We are looking for a candidate with an MSc and/or PhD degree in a technological subject, such as Physics, Electrical Engineering or Computer Sience, with excellent programming skills in C++ and Python. Experience with biomedical imaging, segmentation/registration techniques as well as advanced machine learning approaches such as deep learning is a strong advantage. You should be able to work in a multi-disciplinary and international team.

Being able to present a certificate of good conduct, a valid proof of identity, diploma's and/ or relevant registration such as BIG/ RGS are conditions for the appointment.

Conditions of employment

As a Research Software Engineer you will get a temporary appointment for maximally 15 months (full-time), depending among others on starting date. The gross monthly salary amounts a maximum of € 4.481,- (scale 10), depending on your level of education and relevant experience and based on a full-time working week of 36 hours. The terms of employment are in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement for University Medical Centers (CAO UMC).
