Job description

The Department of Architecture at TU Delft conducts both research projects and design studios into housing issues worldwide. Whether these are situated in the so-called global north or in regions experiencing rapid urban growth, these issues represent one of the most challenging aspects to accomplish UN’s Sustainable Developments Goals by 2030. Housing, today, is a global issue that needs to be addressed in academia from an interdisciplinary framework. The TU Delft is engaged in fostering new research methods and alternative approaches to the architectural design of adequate and inspiring housing. The group of Architecture and Dwelling is engaged in promoting human-centered design-based research methods, grounded on rigorous analyses of our global condition of disruptive modernity. The Department as a whole, and this group in particular, wants to complement the rich heritage of TU Delft’s tradition in morphological and typological analysis with research methods borrowed from other disciplinary fields such as Cultural Studies, Anthropology and Sociology. Broad knowledge of historical and cultural precedent are considered a natural component for an effective approach in research and education. Considering the centrality of housing for everybody’s everyday life and for the pursuit of inclusive urbanization, this tenure track position aims at strengthening architectural design as a key component in striking the right balance between the three pillars of sustainability: economic, environmental, and social.

The holder of the tenure track position will contribute to the education of architects, both graduate and undergraduate. We will give primacy to excellent female candidates. The holder of the tenure track position will provide elective courses and seminars on her or his field of expertise, contribute to studio education, develop fieldwork exercises and offer supervision, both methodologically and scientifically, to PhD students. She or he will also contribute to existing research groups, especially the group Global Housing, and develop complementary research lines of her or his own.
