The section Developmental and Educational Psychology of the institute of Psychology of the Faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences and Leiden Institute of Brain and Cognition (LIBC) are looking for a highly talented staff member for the position of Assistant professor in Developmental Psychology or Developmental Neuroscience

Job description

  • Developing an independent research line that attracts young researchers via external funding;
  • Making research results public in peer-reviewed journals, at scientific conferences and other professional meetings;
  • Sharing the research results with a wider audience through (social) media and other public outreach;
  • Teaching BSc and MSc courses in Child and Adolescent Psychology, School psychology and Research master specializations and supervising BSc and MSc research projects;
  • Participation in administrative and organizational tasks;
  • Participation in the Dutch Society for Developmental Psychology (VNOP).

Requirements

  • A strong research record, evident from (among others) a completed PhD thesis (in English) and peer-reviewed international publications on topics in developmental psychology, developmental neuroscience or related fields;
  • Strong statistical and methodological skills (e.g., social network analyses; computational modeling; programming; neuroimaging (fMRI and/or EEG)); 
  • Active valorization of research, collaboration with industrial / non-academic parties;
  • Excellent teaching abilities, and experience with various types of teaching and supervision of students at different stages of their education;
  • Contributing to a positive work environment and open science;
  • Applicants must be able to teach in English. Staff who do not speak Dutch upon appointment are required to progress steadily toward at least a B1 level (CEFR) through training financed by the institute.

Conditions of employment

The appointment is 1.0 FTE; part-time appointment is negotiable. The teaching tasks cover 60% of the appointment, the research tasks cover 40%. Appointment takes place in accordance with the collective labor agreement for Dutch Universities, initially for a period of four years. An extension is possible depending on need, proven suitability and available resources. Depending on experience, the salary is a minimum of € 3,475.- gross per month and a maximum of € 4,757.- gross per month for full-time employment (scale 11 to 12).
