DataHub Maastricht provides various services related to data management in (medical) research. We are a cross-organizational community within Maastricht UMC+ and work on data management solutions for researchers from both the academic hospital (MUMC+) and the university (UM). DataHub develops and manages an institutional repository for research data and enables researchers to store and retrieve scientific data in a sustainable way.

Job description

Function description
DataHub Maastricht is looking for a talented DevOps professional who is comfortable with performing server administration duties in a challenging environment. As a DevOps engineer you will be positioned in our DataHub Agile Scrum team and you will work in close collab oration with UM and MUMC+ central IT-services.
Besides (Linux) system and software administration, the position will also challenge you in configuration and automated deployment of both proven and experimental technologies. Additionally, you will build and manage our continuous testing framework and will get familiar with data management standards and interoperability.

Major duties:

  • Systems administration of our virtual Linux server stack (± 35 Ubuntu and CentOS systems);
  • Monitoring of servers and applications;
  • Monitoring for and identifying potential security breaches and vulnerabilities;
  • Maintain and update automated deployment and configuration procedures;
  • Application management and customer support;
  • Develop our infrastructure further;
  • Improve our continuous integration procedures;
  • Setup and maintain a continuous testing framework;
  • Maintain contact with vendors.

Requirements

We require:

  • A BSc in Information Technology, bio-informatics or equivalent;
  • Comfortable with Linux (Ubuntu and CentOS distros);
  • Knowledge of concepts like CI/CD, configuration management, version control, etc.;
  • Experience with virtualization (VMware) and containerization (Docker);
  • Comfortable with working in an Agile Scrum team;
  • Working proficiency in English.

Experience in these areas is appreciated:

  • Experience with automation software ( Ansible, Jenkins etc.);
  • Experience with testing frameworks (Python nose, Selenium, etc.);
  • Experience with database technologies (MySQL, PostgreSQL, mongoDB, etc.);
  • Experience with programming in Java, PHP, Python or other relevant languages.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 years, with shown suitability after 1 year, this contract will be changed to a permanent contract.

We offer a temporary contract of 1 year (24 - 40 hours per week, discussable with the option to get a permanent contract thereafter. Remuneration will be according to standard salary levels, depending on education and relevant work experience, in salary scale 8 or 9 (between € 2.656,- and € 4.012,- gross per month, based on a fulltime appointment) according to the collective labour agreement
(CAO) of Dutch Universities, including 8% holiday pay and an 8,3% end of year payment. A preliminary scale might apply in case the suitable candidate has yet to develop certain professional skills.
