Job description

To enhance and extend our team for research and education activities in the field of Real Estate Management (REM), we are now hiring an Assistant Professor in the area of Real Estate Management (Tenure Track position). With expertise and enthusiasm for teaching and doing academic research on real estate management, your focus will be on corporate real estate management. You will be part of the REM team in pursuit of its mission: to develop strategies for sustainable management of buildings, portfolios, locations and markets, in the initiation and (re)use phase of real estate. You will join a highly ranked department, faculty and university and work in an international team of highly committed academics in the department of Management in the Built Environment (MBE), of which the chair of Real Estate Management is part.

The chair emphasises the user perspective, designing strategies and tools to implement user preferences in real estate management, and to measure and align the effect of real estate interventions on the performance of the user organisation. Along with that, our research focuses on the lifecycle of the built environment at all scales and the dynamics of those cycles. Analyses are based on sustainability, life cycle costs and total cost of use and ownership. In real estate management research, we are developing decision support models and tools, from a design thinking approach. Accordingly, in our research we apply methods like scenario planning and research by design, supported by qualitative and quantitative methods and techniques. In our research, we aim to supports actors who shape and influence the built environment, like investors, developers, designers, engineers, owners and users. The work has strong ties with other groups and research topics within the department, namely urban development management, and design and construction management.

Do you wish to enhance the profile of our teaching and research, with a specific focus on innovation in research and education? Are you enthusiastic about teaching in bachelor and master courses (BSc Bouwkunde, MSc track Management in the Built Environment) and take on course coordination and course development tasks? You will also be playing an active role in initiating and contributing to research bids and funded projects, supervising PhD candidates and writing academic publications. This will require close collaboration with scholars in the department of MBE and/or the faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment, as well as with experts in different domains outside the university.

A Tenure Track is a process leading up to a permanent appointment. It offers young, talented academics a clear and attractive career path. In Delft, you will have the opportunity to develop yourself into an internationally acknowledged and recognised academic, for which you will be supported by a structured career and personal development programme.
