Then Maastricht Sustainability Institute (MSI) has a position for you as junior lecturer Sustainability.

Job description

As junior lecturer you play a central role in the new interfaculty Minor Sustainability; next to MSI’s teaching activities at bachelor and master level. You will be part of course teams and fulfill a variety of tasks, such as preparing and teaching courses, tutoring of student groups, grading assessments and exams, and supervision of student projects. You will take care of qualitatively good teaching in accordance with academic and faculty guidelines. The educational model is Problem-based Learning. Teaching and working language is English.

Requirements

The ideal candidate has a thorough knowledge of sustainable development, and has teaching skills or is willing to acquire them. In particular, you:

  • Have a Master degree in sustainability science or sustainable development;
  • Are familiar with Problem-based Learning or other student-centred education approaches;
  • Are able to inspire students from undergraduate to graduate levels;
  • Are able to work in an international academic environment, both as team player and independently;
  • Have good communication and coordination skills;
  • Have excellent command of spoken and written English;
  • Are able to start 1 September 2021 (preferable earlier).

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 2 years with a possibility to extend for two more years.

We offer:

  • A position as junior lecturer (0.8-1.0 FTE) for two years. With a possibility to extend for two more years. The salary will be set in salary scale 10 of the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (from € 2.790 to € 4.402 gross per month depending on experience and qualifications, based on a full-time appointment). On top of this, there is a 8% holiday allowance and a 8.3% year-end allowance.

The terms of employment of Maastricht University are set out in the Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities (cao-NU). Furthermore, local UM provisions also apply. Notable terms include a pension scheme, substantial leave arrangements, an optional collective healthcare plan and partially paid parental leave. Furthermore, UM makes use of a selection model, which allows you to exchange employment conditions to adapt them to your preferences and circumstances.

Maastricht Sustainability Institute

Maastricht Sustainability Institute (MSI) is part of SBE, and with its focus on sustainable development in research and education centrally at the interface of science, policy and society. The institute offers the Master programme Sustainability Science, Policy and Society and is working on a new Master programme in Sustainable Business. The institute coordinates the new interfaculty Minor Sustainability and provides sustainability education at bachelor level. MSI’s international, multidisciplinary staff (ca. 40 persons) has an interdisciplinary working style and transdisciplinary interest for addressing sustainability problems.
