Job description

The classic setting of a standard screen, a compute device, and a single user is about to change, with the advent of many-view rendering scenarios. Stereoscopic, virtual-reality, augmented reality, multi-view, and soon light-field and holographic displays (to provide correct depth perception) enter the mass market and require many images of the same content. Similarly, other applications, such as remote-rendering with large crowds operating low-performance devices, or complex light transport phenomena (see image) lead to structurally similar challenges. This project addresses the topic of many-view rendering via three research lines with high potential for scientific and technological impact. First, we want to identify and reduce recurring computations. Second, given that the user interprets the image, we aim at reducing costs by exploiting perceptual limitations. Finally, we will conceive novel design tools to build efficient content for many-view scenarios.

Department

Faculty Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science

The Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science (EEMCS) brings together three disciplines - electrical engineering, mathematics and computer science. Combined, they reinforce each other and are the driving force behind the technology we use in our daily lives. Technology such as the electricity grid, which our faculty is helping to make future-proof. We are also working on a world in which humans and computers reinforce each other. We are mapping out disease processes using single cell data, and using mathematics to simulate gigantic ash plumes after a volcanic eruption. There is plenty of room here for ground-breaking research. We educate innovative engineers and have excellent labs and facilities that underline our strong international position. In total, more than 1,100 employees and 4,000 students work and study in this innovative environment.
