Job description

Utrecht University School of Economics (U.S.E.) has a vacancy for a Junior Researcher, to contribute to the research and general development of the Entrepreneurship Section of U.S.E.. The candidate is expected to contribute to ongoing research projects and new research proposals, including literature research, qualitative and quantitative research, and reporting and presenting research output. The candidate will also contribute to the general development and external visibility of the section by organizing its social media (setting up accounts, attracting followers, collecting and diffusing content from other section members) and regular meetings with stakeholders. Finally, the candidate will assist in organizing conferences and workshops around the section's Entrepreneurship & Society research programme.

Requirements

The successful candidate is expected to have a thorough knowledge and skills in entrepreneurship research, and more particularly:
  • a completed Master's degree in economics, business economics, management, data science or a related discipline;
  • excellent research skills, demonstrated in written theses and/or academic papers;
  • excellent communication and coordination skills;
  • an excellent command of spoken and written English;
  • preferably the ability to communicate in the Dutch language.

Conditions of employment

U.S.E. offers a fixed-term appointment (1.0 FTE) for a period of one year in an international working environment. Preferred starting date is 1 September 2021. The gross salary - depending on previous qualifications and experience  - ranges between €2,790 and €4,402 (scale 10 according to the Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities) per month for a full-time employment. Salaries are supplemented with a holiday bonus of 8% and a year-end bonus of 8.3% per year. In addition, Utrecht University offers excellent secondary conditions, including an attractive retirement scheme, (partly paid) parental leave and flexible employment conditions (multiple choice model). The candidate will become a member of the Entrepreneurship section at U.S.E., which is involved in teaching at Bachelor's and Master's level. Its research programme revolves around Entrepreneurship and Society: how entrepreneurial behaviour at individual, organization, industrial and international levels creates value to society at large, and how this behaviour can be explained and leveraged by decision-makers. Specific research pillars include entrepreneurial ecosystems, innovation and entrepreneurial behaviour, social and sustainable entrepreneurship, and internationalization of entrepreneurship. The section founded the Utrecht Center for Entrepreneurship and the Utrecht University Social Entrepreneurship Initiative and is involved in the European Center for Alternative Finance and the Sustainable Finance Lab.
