Job description

We are looking for an agricultural scientist who has experience in working at crop, cropping systems or farming systems level. You will work on projects related to estimating and understanding crop production, yield gaps and resource use efficiency of multiple crops, including potato and cereal crops. Important aspects of the work will be analysis of data for scientific publications as well as summarizing information such that this can be used by stakeholders (incl. farmers).

You have expertise in the application of quantitative systems analysis to complex problems, including the use of crop growth simulation, statistical methods and possibly optimisation models. You have experience of working in interdisciplinary teams and in translating your results into policy and practice.

There will be ample opportunities to join national and international meetings (on-line and physical) and to publish your research in high impact journals.

You will supervise BSc and MSc students for thesis projects.

Requirements

You are an enthusiastic team player in the field of agronomy and agriculture. You are adept at working in a multicultural organisation, and possess good communication skills in English, both written and orally. You have a PhD degree in a field related to sustainable agriculture and food systems, a strong publication record and enthusiasm for research and working with students at BSc and MSc level. Experience with modern scripting languages is desirable.

Depending on your experience, we offer a competitive salary of between € 2836,- and €4474,- for a full-time working week of 38 hours, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreements for Dutch Universities (CAO-NU) (scale 10). You will be offered a contract for one year with an option to extend for up to four years.
