And are you an experienced Molecular Biology Laboratory Analyst who enjoys working in a state of the art laboratory? Then we might have an interesting opportunity for you at the Marine Animal Ecology Group at Wageningen University & Research!


Within our framework of marine biodiversity research, we are looking for an independent and flexible Molecular Biology Laboratory Analyst. We are offering an exciting position within an enthusiastic international research team. Your tasks will include all aspects of DNA analyses, as well as the supervision and support of students, PhDs and team members with this work. In some cases you will also be involved in projects together with external partners.

You will be mostly working on DNA metabarcoding from different ecosystems, for instance with eDNA samples, bulk samples or tissue samples. You are familiar with subsequent processing methods e.g. isolating DNA, PCR, gel electrophoresis, sequencing library construction and sequencing. Furthermore you will work on High Molecular Weight DNA Isolation of especially fish, and the subsequent whole genome sequencing with Nanopore MinION and/or PromethION. We also offer the opportunity to (further) develop your skills in the use of specific bioinformatic tools (assemblies, annotations) to prepare genetic/genomic data for analyses.

Requirements

  • You are an enthusiastic and independent worker and you enjoy being part of a team.
  • You have a BSc in Biological Sciences (In Dutch HBO, hoger laboratorium onderwijs) with the relevant specialization or equivalent experience in laboratory analyses.
  • Extensive understanding of molecular biology, and affinity with working in the laboratory, but you are also interested in bioinformatics.
  • Experience with nanopore sequencing would be ideal, but is not a requirement.
  • You take your responsibilities seriously, you can identify crucial tasks, and you can work on tasks independently.
  • You have a flexible work attitude, and you are capable of working on multiple projects, and with different and changing protocols, simultaneously.
  • You have excellent organizational and planning skills as well as good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Knowledge of and interest in Marine Biodiversity would of course by ideal.

Depending on your experience, we offer a competitive gross salary of between € 2.700,- and € 3.606,- for a full-time working week of 38 hours, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreements for Dutch Universities (CAO-NU) (scale 8). The appointment can be for 32 or 36 hours (0,8fte) a week and is for one year with the possibility of extension if you perform well.
