Are you a technician with a microbiology background who loves doing science but is also interested in doing lab management?
In the Infection Biology group, we work on how commensal and pathogenic bacteria can stimulate health or cause disease. We are looking for a technician with expertise in molecular, microbiological and/or cellular techniques to support different projects in the group. Part of the work will consist of lab management, for example ordering of reagents and equipment, safety supervision and organizing lab plasmids, strains, and antibodies collections. Other tasks will be technical supervision of new personnel and teaching microbiology practical education.

Laboratory techniques:
  • Microbiological techniques including construction of recombinant bacteria.
  • Molecular techniques such as cloning, protein expression, western blotting and immunoprecipitation.
  • Cell culture of epithelial and immune cell lines and/or organoids.
  • Infection assays with biosafety level 2 pathogens.
  • Confocal microscopy and flow cytometry analysis.
Other skills:
  • Lab management and organization.

Requirements

The ideal candidate:
  • is motivated and ha a passion for lab work and lab management;
  • has experience with some of the techniques listed;
  • has an outgoing personality with good communication skills;
  • has a HLO degree.

Conditions of employment

We offer a 0.5-0.8 FTE position, initially for a period of one year. The gross monthly salary is based on experience and qualifications, and ranges from a minimum of €2,367 to a maximum of €3,196 (i.e. salary scale 7 according to the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities) on a fulltime basis. Salaries are supplemented with a holiday allowance of 8% and a year-end bonus of 8.3%.
