We are seeking to recruit two (2) Assistant Professors (0,8 fte each) within the newly structured Law & Markets department. We also accept suitable parttime applicants. In the latter case, the exact nature and division of your professional activities (teaching and research) will be determined in close consultation with you. Those who do not have sufficient command of the Dutch language are expected to undergo formation to be able to teach in Dutch within 2-3 years (level C1).

Summary of the nomination requirements:  

In your application, please focus on addressing the following essential criteria.

  • Excellent academic past performance, proven by a completed or almost completed PhD as well as other high quality publications;
  • Experience in academic teaching and a demonstrable innovative attitude towards active academic learning; 
  • Excellent knowledge of national, EU and/or international public law in one or more of the following areas: sustainability, digitalization, and/or inclusiveness. 
  • Preferably some experience in cross disciplinary work in research, for example with political science, economics or public administration scholars  

Conditions of employment

An internationally oriented and varied job in an enthusiastic team, with good working conditions in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU).

The start date of this position is as soon as possible and you will be based at Erasmus School of Law in Rotterdam. The successful candidate will be offered a part-time (0,8 fte), 18 months contract with Erasmus University Rotterdam, with the possibility of a fixed employment contract or tenure. 

In accordance with the conditions applied at Erasmus University Rotterdam as indicated in the Collective Labour Agreement (CAO NU) of the Dutch universities, the salary is dependent on the candidate’s experience and is set at a maximum of CAO NU scale 11 or 12 with a minimum of € 3.807,- and a maximum of € 5.922,- gross per month, on a fulltime basis. In addition, EUR pays an 8% holiday allowance and an end-of-year payment of 8.3% and offers excellent secondary benefits, like a very generous leave scheme. Furthermore, EUR is affiliated with ABP for the pension provision and we offer partially paid parental leave. Employees can also use EUR facilities, such as the Erasmus sports center and the University library.

If the candidate has not yet completed his/her PhD, he/she will be offered a 12 months contract. The contract can be extended in case of a positive assessment. The salary is dependent on the candidate’s experience and is set at a maximum of CAO NU scale 10 with a minimum of € 2.836,- and a maximum of € 4.474,- gross per month, on a fulltime basis.

EUR offers a Dual Career Programme (DCP) to assist the life partners of new academic staff (on pay-roll) in finding employment in The Netherlands. The programme is offered in close cooperation with nearby universities of Delft and Leiden.
