The Open Science programme team is looking for an assistant project leader who will help create a culture change in which Open Science becomes an integral part of research, education, talent development and social impact of the University of Groningen.

Open Science is a global movement that aims to make scientific research, data and dissemination accessible to all levels of an inquiring society. Open Science practices encompass all teaching materials and the entire research process and create new opportunities for interaction, collaboration and engagement with academic colleagues and societal partners.

The Open Science programme of the University of Groningen consists of five pillars: Open Access, FAIR data and software, Open Educational Resources, Public Engagement and Communication. Each pillar has its own pillar team with its own objectives. The programme will run for at least two years, from September 2021 to September 2023. Strengthening the Open Science community and supporting and unburdening academic staff as much as possible in their Open Science practices are important points of attention in the programme.

The purpose of the position is to ensure, together with the programme team, the implementation, monitoring and delivery of pillar objectives based on the Open Science programme plan, in such a way that the programme plan is realized within the constraints of costs, quality, time, organization and communication.

The assistant project leader will, for example:

- organize and help prepare bi-monthly Open Science steering committee meetings
- support programme activities by thinking along with the content of, and helping with the organization of, Open Science workshops, conferences, and bi-weekly core team meetings
- contribute to Open Science newsletters, blogs, annual plans, annual reports, communication and implementation plans
- monitor and support project progress, making planning and progress overviews and identifying possible bottlenecks
- be a point of contact for the project environment and conducting consultations with programme leader, project team and other stakeholders
- monitor internal and external developments that influence the execution of the project
- take care of practical project coordinator and performing executive activities.

Requirements

The ideal candidate has:

- affinity with Open Science principles and/or demonstrable understanding of Open Science
- strong organizational skills, can keep a good overview and set priorities
- academic level of thinking
- excellent English and Dutch oral and written language skills
- a proactive attitude and good communication skills, persuasiveness and organizational sensitivity
- interest in and affinity with research and education or research and education support.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 24 months.

We offer a challenging position at the University of Groningen Library in a young and enthusiastic team!

- depending on education and experience, the salary is a maximum of € 4,078 (salary scale 9) gross per month on a full-time basis
- holiday allowance of 8% gross annual income
- year-end bonus of 8.3%
- The position is classified according to UFO profile: project leader 2 and is open to 0.4-0.6 FTE for a period of two years. Additional tasks and responsibilities will become available in the spring of 2022.

Finally, depending on education and experience, the position can possibly be supplemented with a 0.5 fte position as chair of the Open Science Community Groningen (OSCG) (official vacancy will follow soon).
