In this position, you are the key-player for specialists from various perspectives: end users, work processes, key users and systems functional management.

Job description

We are looking for a communicative, enthusiastic colleague, who is able to work in this dynamic environment. You ensure that the library system and special collection system function properly (IT), are properly used and filled with collection data (process). You oversee the scope of the systems, you know the main features of the functionalities and you are a discussion partner in improving the functioning of the systems.

In addition, you are project leader of related library-wide projects based on your expertise. For example, think of innovation processes such as making collection components more visible in the web or improving the use of digital educational materials in the UM learning environment.

  • You lead projects with a (large) ICT component, sometimes to introduce a new service or upgrade existing services.
  • You organize and manage the Worldshare back office and front office meetings. Functional managers, key users and information specialists from various disciplines of Worldshare participate in this meetings.
  • You organize and manage the meeting of the collection management system of the special collections. Key users and functional managers participate in this meeting.
  • You coordinate the activities around both systems. You do this in a connecting way.
  • You oversee the integration and use of LibSearch in the whole of the toolset of Worldshare Management Services and the Online Library as a website and you communicate at the right moment with information specialists and the management team.
  • You oversee the operation of various modules in the library system and other systems, you work on continuous improvement and you identify any bottlenecks in the collaboration or collaboration.
  • You maintain and manage the working relationship with the supplier OCLC, you submit user wishes together with other Dutch universities and you know how to get these on their implementation agenda.
  • You lead and give substance to the upcoming project regarding the tendering of the library system.
  • You have knowledge of new methods and techniques (e.g. machine learning and artificial intelligence) and you know how to translate these into the context of your work and you use this to initiate new projects.

Requirements

  • BSc work and thinking level
  • Experience with larger ICT related projects and project methods
  • Experience in coordinating teams with a content and IT component
  • Knowledge of a library system such as OCLC Worldshare or Ex Libris ALMA is an advantage
  • Knowledge of collection management systems such as Islandora or Omeka S is an advantage
  • Knowledge of tender processes is an advantage
  • Affinity with (web) technology and (web) analytics in combination with the services of a library
  • Experience with user experience design (UXD), optimizing user experience
  • Knowledge of Dublin Core and MARC metadata formats
  • Knowledge of XML, JSON, RDF and the semantic web is an advantage
  • Good communication skills in Dutch and English

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 year.

This is a structural position for 0.8 FTE, with a probationary appointment for 1 year. The position is classified in the UFO profile Functional Manager ICT level 1 (scale 10), expanded with tasks from the project manager profile.

The University Library is one of the initiators of FAIR@UM.

The University Library is responsible for acquiring and making available of the (to a large extent digital) scientific information sources (journals, books, data files, videos), the digital and physical learning environment of the UM, information skills training and e-learning advice, research data management (RDM) and other research support. The University Library supports several research related information systems. University, VSNU and (inter-)national funders require good practices for RDM. The University Library fulfils a supporting role in awareness and training, preparation and execution of RDM plans, storage, metadating and thus findability and accessibility of research data. In this field, FAIR principles are leading.

Working at the University Library is open, collegial and customer-oriented. The University Library closely works with individual faculties and the ICT service centre in order to reach an integrated approach at UM level. At this moment, the I-strategy for Maastricht University is set. This leads to new investments in research data management support, both in infrastructure and in capacity. Maastricht University aim to create a shared services team to support researchers in research data management.
