UNU-MERIT/Maastricht Graduate School of Governance is looking for an alumni assistant.

Job description

The Maastricht Graduate School of Governance offers an intensive, one-year MSc in Public Policy and Human Development, MPP for short. The School is part of UNU-MERIT, which offers post-graduate education (Masters, PhD, short courses). With over 1,200 alumni, former students hold careers in government, non-profits, policy, and the private sector.

This position will help expand the alumni network and increase moments of interaction throughout the year through communication, events planning, and content creation.

This position will assist the MPP Alumni Office in a range of support tasks. Specifically, the alumni assistant should expect to:
1. Help draft a strategy on multiple projects, including alumni funding and regional hubs
2. Assist in communication to students, staff, alumni, and the UNU-MERIT PhD alumni team about alumni efforts. This will include:
- Drafting a regular alumni newsletter
- Monitoring and posting on social media pages
3. Help in event planning
4. Contribute to social media pages, including creating posts
5. Attend meetings and represent MPP alumni with central and faculty alumni offices
6. Participate in the Alumni Committee as a faculty member
7. Bring innovative ideas to further strengthen UNU-MERIT alumni community

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Relevant previous work experience (video filming and editing, graphic design, project management, intercultural communication) and/or evidence of competence in previously listed fields
  • Good communication skills with multiple stakeholders
  • Proficient at Microsoft Office; Qualtrics; Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, or similar software
  • Ideally also familiar with Canvas and Corsa
  • Fluent English, knowledge of Dutch is not required but will be considered an asset
  • More focus will be placed on demonstrated skills and work experience. Because of this, you are expected to submit a portfolio of recent work along with your CV and letter of motivation

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 year.

The Maastricht Graduate School of Governance (MGSoG) prepares professionals and researchers for policy analysis, risk assessment, policy design, policy monitoring, policy evaluation and methods and techniques of policy research. The School is integrated within United Nations University – MERIT (UNU-MERIT).  The School is the centre for the institute’s double degree Master of Science in Public Policy and Human Development, which aims to train public policy professionals for the global community. 

UNU-MERIT, including MGSoG, has been closely involved in research for a variety of UN agencies, including the International Labour Organization (ILO), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and the World Bank.

Overall the institute functions as a unique research centre and graduate school for around 100 PhD fellows and 140 master students. It is also a UN think tank addressing a broad range of policy questions on science, innovation and democratic governance.
