Job description

The Department of Macro, International and Labour Economics (MILE) at the School of Business and Economics (SBE) of Maastricht University is looking for a senior economist in the area of Macroeconomics, preferably with a focus on Monetary Economics. The candidate’s profile focuses on applied – empirical – research in areas that match the department’s macroeconomic research interests, such as macroeconomic growth, resilience and sustainability, monetary and fiscal policy in an international context, and European integration. We expect the candidate to significantly contribute to the department’s research profile and connect to two broader research themes at Maastricht University that focus on “Europe” and “Resilience and Sustainability” respectively.

A suitable candidate has an excellent track record of publishing in international academic journals, teaching and acquiring independent research funding. We expect the candidate to play a leading role in the further development of the domain of monetary economics and macroeconomics within MILE, SBE and Maastricht University at large in all dimensions: research, teaching - including post-graduate programs -, acquiring funding and the creation of societal impact. We expect teaching to be research-based and research to be relevant in a broad sense: contributing to advancing academic knowledge as well as to being policy relevant and creating societal impact. We are looking for a senior economist, who is also willing and able to fulfil senior administrative/managerial tasks. The department strives for unity in diversity, is open to innovative and non-orthodox views and to a multidisciplinary approach. Teamwork and good citizenship are highly valued. We expect any candidate to create significant synergies and positive externalities, both within the department and SBE.

Conditions of employment

Remuneration will be depending on the profile, which is for Associate Professor between gross monthly salary of  € 5294 and € 7079 (based on a full-time position). Each year the standard salary is supplemented with a holiday allowance of 8% and an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%.

You have to be willing to move to (the vicinity of) Maastricht. Depending on your personal situation, you will be eligible for an allowance for moving costs. Other secondary conditions include a pension scheme and partially paid parental leave.
